Forged weapons and armor can be purchased once you build (or capture) a forge at a PC. Mike's Corner details the cost. The advantage of forged weapons and armor is that they can't be stolen from the group. The disadvantage is they're expensive, a multi-stage process, and can't be transferred from group to group once purchased.

And they add 25% shield and attack to the group with them.   Like adding a warlord to your attacking group. And P5 shield

I didn’t say it was good or bad?  It’s just an aspect that maelstrom has.  One can choose to develop many different aspects of the game.  Wizard fortifications military production and politicals   It’s just something in the game to do if you wish.  If I’m a magic kingdom that has a ton of skeletons then I do improved armor and weapon to get my guys to fight better and longer.   If I’m the RD, I will use those funds to boost military and production to feed and pay that military.

The limiting of the bounty spell will greatly reduce the amount of castles and above you will see.  They will be rate until mid game.
