New Anon Game?
#11
(12-06-2017, 02:46 AM)Windstar Wrote: Since I am still new at this, what are the differences between a confluence game and a confederation game?

Confluence each person plays both kingdoms in the same region they select.  PCs are also doubled in all regions.

Confederations each person plays two kingdom but drafted the standard 1 kingdom per zone/dispersed

Ok with Confluence, but I believe Drogo said he is not. Ok with 36 hours.
But if we can get 10, nice anon game.

I agree 12 in anon is rough because region sharers are either hurt or have to work together, leaving a sour taste with others.

I do not want to play a normal anon game whether 10 or 12.  I was very annoyed when an ally was declared turn one.  I forced myself to play 10 turns and then quit.  I do not want to do that again.

But if others want a normal anon game maybe we need to start two separate threads?

even in anonymous/silent games, there is nothing wrong with attempting to ally with another kingdom, whether for mutual survival, finding someone to vote with you on the high council, or just trying to shore up a border you (hopefully) don't have to worry about for awhile. it's especially common when the RD is in the game and you play one of the weaker southern kingdoms.... that opening ally offer can help influence the RD to go elsewhere.

besides there are plenty of ways to signal "let's be friends" to another kingdom in a anonymous game through normal in-game orders/actions without the formal ally offer (at least the ally offer is open and shown to all players) and that would include confederation and confluence games as well.

I disagree that "there is nothing wrong with attempting to ally with another kingdom . . ." in an anonymous game.  This violates the spirit of anonymity.

All the ways of sending friendly signals you hint at are inefficient, or ineffective, or simply not understood by the player you are signalling -- this is what an anonymous game is.

Every confederation and confluence game I have played the players made it clear while drafting kingdoms that ally declarations were not allowed.  Maybe your games have been different?

I am not saying you have to play the game my way.  But I am saying that I am unwilling to play the game your way.  Therefore, if the next game started is any anonymous format where it isn't specifically agreed upon that ally declarations are not allowed then I will pass and wait for a different game to start.

If we Confederations then we should easily have 5 or 6. We should be able to get this started.

Anonymous simply mean that you don't know which player is playing the kingdom. it has no bearing or effect on whether two kingdoms can work together or fight each other. I think you're confusing anonymous with independent (or some other adjective) when you state that it violates the spirit of anonymity; in no way does declaring an alliance violate anonymity, I still have no idea who is playing the other kingdom whether they ally with me in return or ignore me.

Confederation, Confluence, and Warlord games often have a house rule that alliances are not allowed nor are HC motions that assist a different team/kingdom then your own (but even then it must be agreed upon by the players at the onset). But again, that can be declared whether a game is anonymous or not. However, standard Steel games (10-12 individual players) generally do NOT have any such house rule applied, players are free to ally with one another whether anonymous or not and have HC motions that can help/hinder any kingdom.

Have I mentioned my preference is for what the game is designed for:  Full-On or Alliance?  The multi-controlled kingdoms games that stay with that are fine - so either Confederations or Confluence.  The problems seem to emerge in the other variants.

Mike has kind of been working behind the scenes, if you've noticed.  New text, new Universal Results, a bit more use of color.  I liked seeing some of his new phrases in combat results.

See my other post on potentially eliminating a couple spells.

Confluence is 4 regions owned by 1 of your 2 kingdoms. They both start in same region. Ie DU/EL DU controls 4 regions for win. 3 DU and 1 EL does not win. Confederation is 2 kingdoms in 2 regions or dispersed, and it takes 6 regions to win combining your 2 kingdoms. Ie 6 DU and 0 NE or 3 DU, and 3 NE if these are your paired kingdoms. 1 kingdom per region, plus dispersed if 12 player, or any combination of choices agreed upon by players, so 1 region may be unplayed and a dispersed may be in play, or both D1 and D2 with 2 open regions.

IF there is still a position open I will take it, Canticar. Ryvor I would need to be setup for a single game.
