I believe its 2500 gold / 2600 food, you can cross check v the published BL setup info.

The RD setup mentions 'dragons' not being able to use weapon artifacts or investigate sightings.

The BL setup mentions 'dragons' using weapon artifacts in the infantry phase of combat and mentions no restrictions on investigating sightings.

Can anyone clarify if the split exists for red/black dragons or if all dragons fall under one of these conditions and the other condition is listed from an older version?

Also, there's no storyline reason for why dragons can't investigate sightings or use artifacts. Can the powers that be say what the rationale is? (I'm not opposed to it. I'm just wondering because story is important to me and I desire explanations for things in the context of the game world. Explanations in the context of gameplay, I trust have to do with balance issues and that doesn't bother me.)

I have a hard time picturing dragons wielding swords and such. Also, many of the encounters seem to involve going in tight places that dragons wouldn't fit. That's how I always justified it in my head.

Don't Dragons in Alamaze have a human form, for when they go on Emissary/Agent missions etc?

Still looking for clarification on whether Black Dragons and Red Dragons have differences in using/investigating artifacts since the setups state different things.

Also curious about the issue of them using portals.

And the main question of the storyline justification too.

Black Dragons and Red Dragons are treated the same for Unusual Sightings and using weapon artifacts - they can't.

There's no restriction on portals, although I've never heard of a dragon group using one since they fly. I guess like the armadillo crossing the road, you could try it just to prove it could be done.

So I'm not at all bothered by the artifact restrictions in terms of game play, but storyline-wise I'd like a justification since the world building seems incomplete without one.

BTW, I assume the no artifacts for Dragons is a 2013 relaunch devlopment? I don't see the artifact restrictions in the old 2nd cycle setups and that would explain why the bit about using weapon artifacts in the infantry stage is still in the kingdom setups.

Also could you clear up this question of whether dragons can shift to a humanoid form? I have a hard time seeing Dragon emissaries at foreign courts in lizard form wearing sashes and gowns. Plus dragon agents doing covert recon of a city at 2 tons apiece.

Why don't you just imagine it in any way that makes you happy? I prefer a game where a little is left to the human imagination. Not everything must be explained.

Or you could just assume that the dragons have human henchmen to do some of the work for them.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

I don't need everything explained, but I like inconsistencies cleared up, for instance, if they had human henchmen for agent work, then they could have a few dragon riders along to use/investigate artifacts.

If they can't shift to human form then how do their agents stay covert?

If you were to say, "A glamour spell prevents anyone seeing their dragon form," then I'd be OK with that, but...

Well, confession time. I'm working on a wee bit of Alamaze fan fiction and it involves dragons and artifacts so I felt like working as much within the official rules of Alamaze lore would be best. "Beach Patrol" was such an inspired piece of literature that I feel the need to set adventures in Alamaze myself.

Okay, I hope the 'fan fiction' doesn't involve a pervy king who is a shocking sexual deviant...
And I hate Beach Patrol as it stole the prize from me in the issue of the Oracle in which it appeared. Smile
