Gentlemen of Alamaze (and Helix, and Bluefile2),
Will has finally suckered me into a Titan match now that we both have enough free slots. While we await our setups, the time has come for us to begin taunting one another. Any thoughts related to kingdom selections, play style, layout, etc. would be most welcome.
Will chose first, then we alternated two picks each until the final pick which also fell to Will.
Names to be changed, but here are the teams (in order of choosing by each):
Will's Beauties:
AN (1)
RD (4)
RA (5)
DW (8)
DA (9)
WI (12)
Kevin's Beast:
DE (2)
BL (3)
GI (6)
GN (7)
EL (10)
WA (11)
Looks like, for the most part, southwest vs. northeast.
Thoughts are most welcomed! And don't forget to vote!!

Some interesting picks. Not surprising that the UN and TR got left on the shelf again, though I do think the SO would have been my final pick over the WA.

If Will had not picked AN first, my initial choice was to be AN/TR, just to see if TR could be a viable military option (works well enough in the 'traditional' Titan format.
As to SO vs. WA, it came down to 'security' by being in the same region as GI vs. my love of the invis. spell at p3. A tough choice, but hopefully it will pan out.

For the final pick, it came down to the SO/WI for me (discounted TR/UN due to build times). The SO would have been protected by DW/RA but I've found it to be my least favorite kingdom. WI is much more exposed, but....

Just curious, why RA and not GI as pick #5?

One issue is that both the GI and RD take a lot of funding to be effective. Another issue was production. Kevin already had three kingdoms in the south (DE/BL/GN)...I needed to have a region there to help with winter production.

When you picked RA, I did not already have three kingdoms in the south. However, had you picked GI instead of RA, I would have had 4 (would have taken RA/GN). I also would have ended up with the TR, for better or worse, in my final selections as I would have needed some sort of brute-force military.

That is very true, but even if you only had enough gold to truly make one of those two positions strongly effective, I probably would have picked GI as a partially defensive play, to keep them out of the hands of my opponent.

Also very true, and I guess if you were concerned he would pick GN/RA as his 3rd and 4th -- which Kevin confirms he would have done -- that would have left you with only one or two other options for the south.
But man, sending both of RD and GI south in the early stage of the game would have been interesting to see, too.
Anyway, you're undoubtedly a way better player than me, so please don't think I'm being critical... just interested in talking it out.

Turn 1 is back and Will and I have both fessed up to 1 botched order each. Hopefully something hugely important on his side.
First HC seat went to AN with an extremely handsome bid of 46051. Issue raised was to denigrate the GN in 7. Combine that with the 2RD showing up to have fisticuffs with my 1GN and there is further proof that nobody likes the Gnomes. Nobody.
