Dang. Now I am wishing I were playing the Amazons! They look powerful and fun!

I haven't bothered with commenting on the development of Alamaze all that much, in a long while, but I would like to take a moment out to comment on the file that you attached that pertains to the Amazons. Personally, I'm not a fan of some of what is presented. Notably, your history of it. ------------------------- We do retain the services of various male Companion units, civilized and otherwise, and are entitled under treaty to recruit brigades of Westmen from towns and cities we control in times of need. ------------------------- Really?! How far the mighty have fallen, that they have become dependent upon the recruiting of men from the Westmen. How very civilized you've made these warrior maidens, Rick. ------------------------- Our belief in our gods is paramount, as is the training of our all women army. ------------------------- Their belief in their gods is paramount, yet their magical prowess is standard. Hmmm......That strikes me as problematic, and at a minimum, as paramount being rendered rather run of the mill. I look at the attached file, and the Amazons don't come across from what I read as being particularly vicious, much less legendary. I am curious as to why Amazons would need or want to recruit men to fill out their armies. That strikes me as a rather antithetical approach to designing an Amazon position. I do like the fact that they can have apes as companions. Instead of recruiting men under treaty, did you consider having Amazons in tune with nature, such that they could bring an army (or attachments) of apes to battle, rather than men? Not trying to toss a monkey wrench into anything. Just decided to share a few thoughts, after reading the forum, tonight. The Proud Matriarchy of the AMAZON WARRIORS Kingdom Motto: The Lioness Hunts the Prey Leader Title: Holy Mother (always female) From Your High Councilor: We Amazons are not an ancient people, but established our kingdom by defeating the Westmen dynasty centuries ago. While we retain our wild ways including hunting from horseback, we have adapted the characteristics of other civilizations including a stable political system. Our belief in our gods is paramount, as is the training of our all women army. We do retain the services of various male Companion units, civilized and otherwise, and are entitled under treaty to recruit brigades of Westmen from towns and cities we control in times of need. Our Secrecy grants us a hidden capital, that may be in any terrain. We have mastery in the plains, and stand alone in that regard: those abilities will be important to our success, Holy Mother. Traits: Trackers, Military Tradition, Devout, Riders, Adventurers, Healing, Secretive, Archers. Special Orders and Abilities: Our Capital begins with a Temple constructed by our forbearers. +20% food production in plains PC’s due to our hunting prowess. We have mastered the often decisive Flanking tactic. Our knowledge of sun and heat provides that the Summer Attack advantage is granted. Kingdom Brigade Description: Exclusively female warriors, primarily light cavalry, carrying bow and spear, accompanied by fleet footed light infantry. Well trained and extremely adept in the plains. Brigade Ratings: Defense LR Missile SR Missile Charge Val 1st Melee 2nd Melee Combined Storm Pha Average Good Good Very Good Above Average Above Average Above Average Above Average Companions Available: Hill Giants, Wildlings, Apes, Zealots Terrain Adeptness: Mastery in the Plains Magical Prowess: Standard Spells Available Earlier than Prowess Base: Eagle Familiar, Dire Wolf Familiar, Healing Foreknowledge: Bow of Heracles and The Last Herd of Winged Stallions ----------------------------------------------------------------- So, not sure I follow. The Amazons have 8 Traits (that's a lot) including Devout (considered powerful) and Healing, which seems to back up the belief in faith not having to be parallel with magic. Remember that spat between religion and Witchcraft, etc. I don't think the Amazons created the distinction. Third Cycle is something that will take months for players to incorporate and adapt to strategically. Already some test feedback is saying something to the effect of, "This is what I do, so how will I ever adapt all these new orders, spells, abilities, traits, brigades, tactics? This is why it is 3rd Cycle, and not changes to 2nd Cycle. I run afoul of some when I say it is a different game, but it is certainly as different as about Civ I vs. Civ V. I don't think you can read that summary of a dossier and conclude the Amazons are anything but a favorite, and from the philosophic perspective, paying homage if nothing else to the Proud Matriarchy of the Amazon Warriors. They have access, Maximus, to all-male brigades, that if recruited, the Amazons command. The Amazons don't become subservient. In Alamaze The Choosing, all kingdoms have access to Companion brigades and can recruit brigades such as Westmen that the Amazons have access to drafting, as a condition of the treaty between the Amazons and Westmen dictate, in that war the Amazons won.

Should we expect them to look like this: ![]() Or should we think of them more like this: ![]() I know which one I would choose, but in all honesty I don't think they would be able to stand up to a trained male in heavy armor.

They don't have to stand up to armored males. They just ride their horses up, shoot you full of arrows, and ride away.
If one were to use the Lasso of Truth on me, I would admit that I very much like that little blonde. ![]() Lord Diamond

That's why the Amazons take Zealots, Westmen, and (why?) Apes into battle with them. They can lock the enemy infantry in place while their mounted archers eat up the flanks.
Ask the Romans about the Persian mounted archers. Let them catch you in the plains and you won't enjoy it. I played the Amazons in the last game. They sucked against a pc, but rocked in their element when used properly. Now that you mention it, that redhead is pretty nice looking. Lord Diamond
