I believe 4 plus 3 per region owned. There is a trait that gives you more
Easy way to fine out is use the order checker try to make more standing orders it will say when you have to many then just remove check mark on the ones you do not want

With standing orders an important thing to remember is it will cost an order to cancel them later. My general rule of thumb is if I cannot continue the standing order for at least 3 turns I go with a regular order.

Keys are used to enter Quest encounters. For example the Key of the Gem would allow you to access the Unusual Sighting for the Gem of the Planes. If you went to the Gem of the Planes sighting without the key you could not get in.

say I had the Key of Gem, - do I need to find the encounter for the Gem of Planes? Or can I use magic to find the location of it?

When you get the key through a fine encounter it will give you the artifact number of gem of planes. You then divine location to gem of planes. If you steal the key from another player you must find the gem without knowing its location.

Another question. If a lone wizard is in a patrol collecting artifacts. If they are assassinated, or kidnapped does the artifact become mine?
