For the test game, I would appreciate it if someone tried to destroy a pc, either by meteor or pillage. I would like to verify that it is reported as a universal event and for the map to display the no pc/enc symbols. Some have mentioned that they wanted that feature (the no pc/enc symbols) to help them remember that the area was previously explored. Same goes for when an encounter is successfully completed (map area should show the symbols rather than be "empty").
Also, try to have minor influence in a region to get a brief synopsis of the battle that took place in the region from two other kingdoms. That should be cool to know what else is happening in the game as you plan out your kingdom's actions. I would like Rick to expand upon that synopsis and provide more detail like leaders/wizards/brigade-types in battles but this is just the first version.
You have to be MINOR though to be informed of what's going on in the region. More messages may be coming as Rick takes another look at it. Alamaze is becoming more informative for the players which I think is a good idea. Playing in games without knowing what else is going on is a single-minded approach of sorts and a bit uninteresting at times. The game will be much better with these new changes to get players more involved and feel that they are in an active world.
About the Custom Note improvement, by carrying forward custom notes on subsequent turns until deleted should help with the concern of players had about the map snapshot. I haven't coded that change yet but when it's in place, you'll be able to mark up the map with custom notes and not be bothered with checking previous turns to find out what you wrote as important (e.g., group movements, enemy agents, etc.).
The new feature of displaying the current owner of known pcs (and cities but not random cities which will be treated as unknown towns/villages until explored/identified) will help players with which kingdoms have which pc's and such on the map. There may be more global knowledge items being reported in the future such as large troop movements (which really can't hide from the populace in the area) but want to give Rick some time to review the initial version. I'd say, the more informative and realistic the game is, the better it'll be!
So look over what I posted under UM Corner and try a few of the new changes out to help verify them for me. I've tested them a bit but I've been busy in real life so I need some help verifying all of this. Have fun!
