I've spoken with Ry Vor, and I think it's time to switch up our drafting procedure for Team and Warlord games. We're going to move to a bidding process.
- Each team starts with 100 "diamonds"
- Each team allocates them up front among three different rounds of Kingdom picks
- Each round of picks will go in order of the amount bid, highest to lowest
- Once all picks have been made, sum up the picks by numerical value of the picking slot for each team
- If one or two teams ended up with a significantly higher sum (i.e. separated by a total of three or more picking slots) than the lowest sum, that high team or teams receive a single chivalry bonus of 25,000 gold to allocate to one team
EXAMPLE:
Team A allocates 50 diamonds to Round 1, 30 diamonds to Round 2, and 20 diamonds to Round 3
Team B allocates 45 diamonds to Round 1, 35 diamonds to Round 2, and 20 diamonds to Round 3
Team C allocates 40 diamonds to Round 1, 35 diamonds to Round 2, and 25 diamonds to Round 3
Team D allocates 39 diamonds to Round 1, 33 diamonds to Round 2, and 28 diamonds to Round 3
Round 1 is:
A
B
C
D
Round 2 is:
B (ties are randomized)
C
D
A
Round 3 is:
D
C
B (ties are randomized)
A
So Team A has picks 1, 8, 12 (total 21)
Team B has picks 2, 5, 11 (total 18)
Team C has picks 3, 5, 10 (total 18)
Team D has picks 4, 7, 9 (total 20)
Team A kind of got the shaft on the allocation and dice-off, and is at least three picking points worse than the leader, so Team A would receive one chivalry bonus to allocate to one of its Kingdoms.
Your feedback is welcome! This method puts more control in the hands of the players while still allowing for a slight equalizer for bad breaks.
