#143 - Steel Exploratory Lion's Share Victory
#1
This was our first game to go the whole length through Turn 40.  In this epic contest, in the end it was none other than Daredevil who claimed victory through the Lion's Share, leading the Underworld to victory.

The Wise One took the Rangers to silver, and Canticar got the Ancient Ones a long overdue podium appearance.  A shout out to Airborne Ranger, who with the Black Dragons just missed the podium by 11 status points.

Now let's hear how it all went down!

Hang on here, the game software didn't calculate our status points correctly.

On our turn-40 results, it listed the top three as:

Abb_______Persona______Turn-40_______Grand Total
UN_______Daredevil______9,960_________18,503
RA_________me_________7,215_________14,382
AN_______Canticar_______3,905_________10,584

However, those numbers aren't even close to what they should be according to the official rulebook. I know since I just wrote the code to display itemized status points for game 300's turn 6 (due this Friday btw) so I'm aware of this stuff now.

For my Ranger position, the older code should have calculated my status points as:

400______agent-15 true flighted
400______fanatic-15 darkblade
400______agent-12 vale's poison
400______agent-12 sr galvin truebright
400______agent-12 the help
200______agent-8 abacus
200______agent-8 aerandir
200______agent-8 astaroth
200______agent-8 andoora
200______agent-8 aquilus
400______influence 20+ (25.0)
1000_____control of Synisvania
150______prisoner: giant regent
20_______prisoner: giant agent-2
45_______prisoner: dwarf governor
400______declared as enemy by DW
400______declared as enemy by GI
400-_____declared as ally by RD (note: the RD was not my ally in this game but rather the AN-DW-GI-RD-UN declared each other as enemies and their foes as allies to affect their status points -- which I thought was done in poor taste and was unsportsmanlike conduct by them but that's what they did on the last turn of the game)
400______group > 70k vs PC (1RA was 85k)
400______warlord (3RA)
400______warlord (4RA)
400______warlord (4RA)
400______warlord (4RA)
200______marshal (1RA)
200______marshal (1RA)
400______pwr-8 (3RA)
400______pwr-7 (3RA)
400______pwr-7 (3RA)
400______pwr-7 (4RA)
400______pwr-7 (4RA)
400______pwr-7 (4RA)
1000_____active at game end
---------
10,815 pts without artifacts

I'm not entirely sure of the artifact status points since the rulebook says one thing and the artifact listing shows another value for each item but this is what I had at the end:

300______palantir
300______standard of valor
500______crown of anzu
200______horn of intrepid
300______rod of fire
400______stone of all minds
300______golden spear of lerix
400______great axe of hurblind
200______demon bane
300______plow of the prophet
------
3,200 pts worth of artifacts

So tally them together:
10,815 pts (general)
  3,200 pts (artifacts)
--------
14,015 subtotal for turn-40
7,167 accumulated total from prior turns
=====
21,182 total status points

Which is well above the 14,382 pts that the older game software calculated for my position. Well, anyway, I won the game in my own mind so I'm happy Smile

Having itemized status points each time they're calculated helps players track their point totals and the display also looks nice on the report. Hope the players in game 300 like what I did....

Really, poor sportsmanship to declare ally at the end for status points, but it is perfectly acceptable for you to hire and train several agents for the last several turns of the game just to rack up points? Really, by the guy who "wrote the code"? When did these forums get taken over by haters? The Valhalla forum used to congratulate winners. I thought you played the game very well and thought it was good strategy for you to hire and train agents you were never going to use just to get the points. But apparently if someone else does an action for points it is unsportsmanlike.

I used my agents, stole some artifacts from you if I remember correctly Smile

Like I said, you are a good player who played to the status point rules. So let's have a little less hating.

I would agree that the status points aren't adding up correctly. Game 144, won by the combined might of me, JumpingFist, and Cloud, didn't calculate near what we would have been awarded according to the rules.... but, it calculated everyone according to the same rules at least.

Something to be looked into, I'm sure.

In other news, congrats to Daredevil, The Wise One, and Canticar. No matter what they did to get to the podium, they got there... and in the first game to go the full 40. While we may question what the status points reward, we cannot question that they had the most.

I have no problem Congratulating Daredevil. He Played the UN very well. Anytime someone feels the need to hunt you down to your last PC on T38 you know you are doing something right. We all knew the rules going in and the game lasted until turn 40 so agent and artifacts rule the points.

Will likely do a write up later but if I had to put three people on top for effect on the game it would be AN BL UN in order. Seeing two of the three on the podium with the BL a hair out seem right to me. RA is there for the same thing he is complaining about the other team point grabbing. This was Canticar's best game I have seen him play.

Congrats to everyone who finished the game, especially those that hung in there to the end even though they were clearly out of any contention to win.

I was trying to remember which game that was.  Mage points are off for sure because I actually finished the game with fewer total points that I should have gotten for my mages alone.  I also think the ally enemy thing is off so really they could have been shooting themselves in the foot.

And let's not forget this is the game where the RA publicly announced he was quitting, then continued the game after forgetting to publicly announce he was going to continue playing. And yes, this affected people's actions. So let's go easy with the "unsportsmanlike" claims.

Canticar (AN)

Congratulations to everyone who lasted until the end of this marathon!

I hope that next time I can lure Jumping Fist to the winning team Big Grin

I have a question for Cloud, the WA..... early in the game the RA/BL/SO coalition attacked you in Amberland, then things went quiet for a while.  After a while you started to attack the coalition that was fighting the RA/BL/SO.  I am not judging, but I dont understand.  Would you mind explaining what took place?

I also have a question for the RA/BL/SO/WA/EL.  You started to destroy pop centers around the time that the RA quite the game.  From my perspective this made it very easy for me to hold onto Torvale.  Would you mind explaining your thought process?

It was fun and challenging but I hope I am not involved in another game that lasts 40 turns.

Thanks All!
