In the interest of transparency, here are the as-yet-unplaced personas in the standby queue, in order. If you wish, and are at Commander Level or above, you may take over an abandoned position, typically prior to T6 but beyond in certain circumstances (player doing great but on extended vacation, etc) on the uncommon occasion when that happens. Post here after these names and this will be the official list. Of course you cannot take a standby in a game you are currently in.

I got an email from Support letting me know that a new standby position was open and that I was next on the list.
I was told the kingdom and very general information about the status of the dropped position: how many brigades, how many good leaders, wizard levels, and important regional control levels. Also given were the current turn of the game, the fact that no turns had been missed, that all turns were on hand, and the due date of the next turn.
I'd call that just about all you need to know to decide if you want to take a certain position. I needed almost none of that. I know that standby positions are not given out for kingdoms that have been run off the board - only those that are in good shape. I was given the day to respond but it was an easy call to say yes.
Afterward, I was given all the past turns which I am delving into now. In this case, it was one of the Anonymous games, so that's about all I can say.
