The High Elves of the Golden Woods

Aren't archers at a disadvantage in the forest? Does the Elven bonus cover that?
 Lord Diamond

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

It's all relative. So while long range archery is not good in the forest for any kingdom, the Elves are still 30% stronger in that (plus their defensive advantages in the forest) terrain than other kingdoms.

I want the Elves to return to be a cornerstone of the Alamaze menagerie.

Still likely believe the player who is controlling the kingdom is more powerful than any one kingdom's advantage. In other words, I don't think anyone can make a compelling and conclusive case for any one kingdom as having a better chance in any game than any other.

I like that The Deliverer took on the Gnomes who I think he thought were maybe not a strong kingdom, and that Jumpingfist wants to see what's wrong with the Elves. The Dwarves are doing pretty well in some of the classic games currently in play.

Biggest challenge that I felt at the start was the lower starting influence, 10.5 on Turn 2 if you hired a HP.

I hate to keep saying it, but lots of changes to setups were made over the years in NC that I wouldn't agree with, and I haven't gotten a chance to make some changes to the kingdom dossiers that I have made hand written notes for. An easy example is that the kingdoms that currently start with a High Priestess are about the opposite of the ones when I turned the game over. That said, I think Exploratory will become standard.

I also need to update the Commands once again, and I'd really like to work on 3rd Cycle. And I might eventually start on marketing to get more players. But then I need the web based order entry for that to reduce processing time.

Is there a lexicon somewhere to decode all the code words? Like first, second, and third cycle, magic vs. steel, etc. It is a bit bewildering if you don't understand the references.Undecided

Its kind of spread over the forum. For game formats, it should be spelled out somewhat on the New Game Sign Up forum.

1st Cycle was the original Alamaze game. We aren't running those formats that included the Paladins, Nomads, Barbarians, Westmen, Halflings and Uriks.

2nd Cycle is what we chose to reestablish when we started back up in 2013. 3rd Cycle is what is next up for a major advancement with new map, new kingdoms, new special orders, revised spell lists, new artifacts, etc.

Steel means there is no team victory, Magic has team victory. In regular (full diplomacy), a Steel game has all 15 2nd Cycle kingdoms active. In Magic, or Anonymous, we use 12 players and 12 kingdoms. Recently this has been done by a draft, sometimes by emailing signup@alamaze.co.

Warlords is a 4 player, 12 kingdom game, where players draft their kingdoms in a live draft. A player must be at least at Commander Level service and a Warlords game counts as 2 game slots. Most of the recent Warlords games have also been Anonymous, meaning no communication outside of the three controlled kingdoms.

Rex means no Secret Victory Conditions in play - win by Rex which is controlling 4 regions.

We are in the process of remodeling the ESO (Early Strategic Objective) and SVC. We think players will like the new model for both.

Exploratory is looking to be the new standard, with the meaning that no kingdom begins with a High Priestess and none can be hired prior to Turn 4.

1st cycle was the original Alamaze.

2nd cycle is what we are playing now.

3rd cycle is the future version of Alamaze.

Steel refers to games with individual players playing for individual victory.

Magic refers to team games.

Warlords games have four players, each with three kingdoms

Titan games have two players, each with six kingdoms.
