So, Rick, the banners weren't your brainchild then? Was it someone else in the early days management?
Something that TSR dreamed up? or a player?
The crescent moon for the sorcerer sounds right. Or was that the warlock?
Talked to my brother. He's pretty sure the Westmen banner was a white lion dancing on a blue field, cuz he drew the flag himself.
My own vague recollection is that the elves had an oak tree, the barbarian flag was red, the Warlock was blue and silver (Maybe *he* had the crescent moon?), the dwarves may have had a hammer. For sure, somebody had a maltese cross (Paladin?)
I'm in no doubt that the Dark Elves were the black snake coiled on a green field and the Urik were a black sun on a yellow field, cuz I was playing DA and remember the Eastern Steppes well.

No, that sounds like me. I don't think other games had banners back then, so, it's likely me. But I don't have a list. I do have one for KoA. And we did create them for Fall of Rome Campaigns of Centurion, which is available to Barbarian Service players.

I'm into the idea of the banners, as you can tell, so I'm going to invite discussion on what the banners could be if they ever come back.
The list of banners I saw was 1st cycle, so there were none for the RD, BL, AN, DE, or TR so they start fresh.
Much like the Supreme Court of the US however, I don't want to go against precedent with the others, so keeping them true to the originals I described above would be best in my mind.
Some ideas:
The Witch king - A blazing eye or a tower seems too close to the LotR. Maybe a skull? A wolf?
Demon Princes - As one of 4 fire themed races, I think it might be best to go another route than flames. Maybe chains? A trident? 3-headed dog?
Elves - I like the Oak tree for them. Maybe add a river next to it?
Dark Elves - I like the coiled snake.
Ranger - They may have had a white horse or unicorn originally. I say the white unicorn fits though.
Dwarves - They may have had a hammer before. I think that might be a little too 'dwarfy' though. A mountain peak might work better for them. A barrel of ale?
Giants - Can't remember what they had before. The sun in the sky might be good, to symbolize their height? A pine tree?
Sorcerer - A crescent moon on a field of stars in a midnight blue background seems like it would fit with the original.
Warlock. - He's called the Red Warlock now, but I think his colors were silver and blue before. An infinity sign, if I recall correctly. So maybe a red infinity sign now? Or a silver sign on a red background?
The Dragons. - I feel like it would be the wrong move to actually put a dragon on their flags. Or fire. Maybe a red reptilian eye and a black claw?
Troll - crossed clubs?
Gnome - A waterwheel to symbolize gnomish engineering?
Ancient ones - some kind of 'knowledge' symbol. A lamp, a scroll, a book? An ivory tower? A ship?
Underworld. - I don't remember their original flag at all, except I think it was yellow. Maybe we could give them a black spider on a yellow background? or just the spiderweb?

I created the banners in 1986 or so, more than a quarter century ago and I don't remember what they were. The guesses seem right, but I don't have a list. In Fall of Rome, we have actual banners. I'd like to do that for Alamaze as well. The cool thing in Campaigns of Centurion is you could kind of design your own banner: symbol, foreground color, background color.

I used them to put flags on my map.
The Urik were a Black sun on a yellow field. Dark Elves were a coiled snake on a green field. Westmen had a blue lion I think.
Anyone have access to the full list anywhere?
Lookie what I found! Not all Alamaze, some were intended for Kingdoms of Arcania. See attached.
That was the KoA that brought me to your site. Maybe that's the one we'll see next!
