General Strategic Changes in 3rd Cycle
#51
I have an old PC that I never upgraded java on (still has version 6.21). About 6 months ago, I was able to play a complete 40-turn game with 6 kingdoms vs. 6 AI's. It took about two weekends or so because I was taking my time. It was fun and I loved the nostalgia, but playing against a human is always more challenging.

Also, it wasn't easy to change anything because there's no programmer documentation on how anything works and even their account and password information wasn't clear (something like a dozen or so notes on them but none of them worked to log into the system so it was an old document).

Despite those problems, I tried to bypass the security certificate situation by changing a few settings on the server but Fall of Rome operates on 3 servers and the only one that I was able to successfully change was the one that runs Alamaze (which isn't enough to fully address the issue). So I reset things back to where they were and moved on.

But all is not lost! I mentioned a while ago that we could simulate a Fall of Rome type of game by having special theme-based scenarios for 3rd Cycle. So you can use the same kingdoms, brigade types, and other game mechanics like no magic or high council actions which is the norm for a Fall of Rome game. But that and other theme based scenarios are on hold right now.

Personally, I think Fall of Rome's map is a bit dated. It may have been decent back in the day but I think the future of what is planned for Alamaze is much better. Check out some of the possible screenshots that could be done for the new Alamaze interactive map. It's more advanced, has a 3D look, and provides greater graphics than the cartoon-like Fall of Rome map: http://www.kingdomsofarcania.net/forum/s...8#pid36078

The map looks awesome UM.
