Its just this one game signup. Its not eliminating mage kingdoms from Alamaze. I think we have other signups going on now for someone that has to right now have a mage kingdom.
There are already several 12 kingdom games going on at mid-game now with lots of mage kingdoms under the January Changes. This next game, or any one game is not the acid test for how wizard kingdoms are doing. Again, Valhalla can show you how they have been doing over the last year.
It's similar to when I suggest to new players not to take the Sacred Order in their first diplomacy game, they ignore the advice, take the Sacred Order and get crushed and sometimes leave. I think the Sacred Order is stronger than you would see from Valhalla, but new players seem to always want them and it requires a different kind of sophistication. For example, you don't really want small groups moving into the mountains or forest. To continue the thought, new players are recommended to take the High Elves, the Dwarves, the Dark Elves, the Nomads, or the Gnomes. Next might be the Lizard Kingdom and the Amazons and the Cimmerians. Don't rush into the Demon Princes or Ancient Ones. After you've played awhile, you'll understand why, and you'll know when you are ready.
The idea here is we have some new players who would have a better experience in both not having the much added complexity of controlling a mage kingdom, or being vaporized by an invisible full army with 3 Power 6 wizards. Generally regarded as not fun on the receiving end. We need to develop new players, not crush them or overwhelm them in an already complex game. Again, the restriction is just this game, and when requested in a new game signup, not a forever thing.
