New Full Diplomacy Game
#31
Rick without wizard kingdoms in the game, instantly some of the advantages other kingdoms have, fall off. IE the NO loses some of its power due to the RA/AM both being in the game. If half of the board has riders, no longer does my flanking work.

Needless to say if the wizards are the most powerful kingdoms still. I want to find out and see if what I see as a viable strategy to countering them works.

Avantar if your game was a primeval in which you placed 2nd. You still are eligible for chivalry.

Atuan, we do different formats and variations all the time.  In fact, a repeat of the same format within a couple months is something of a rarity.  We have several new to newish players still learning the ropes and its easier to both not attempt to control a mage kingdom and not have to fight against them.

We're still averaging a new game a week here going on four years, although sometimes we have three games in one week and sometimes one in three weeks.  At any rate, we'll be back with all 24 kingdoms on the table shortly.  Let's let this one play without the five mage kingdoms. Let's have everyone take a kingdom they haven't played before.

Full Diplomacy (No Wizard kingdoms; Play a kingdom you have NOT played in a Diplomacy game before)

IMP_TARK
JohnDoe (Chivalry)
Wayde (Chivalry)
Ohman the heartless (Chivalry)
Avantar (Chivarly)
RELLGAR (Chivarly)

Let me know if those Chivalry bonuses are incorrect (or change before the game starts)

I think you may be handicapping what your trying to accomplish,  removing the wizard kingdoms will not help evaluate the kingdom balance at all. Maybe give preference to non podium players playing a wizard kingdom and podium players choose a non wizard.

Its just this one game signup.  Its not eliminating mage kingdoms from Alamaze.  I think we have other signups going on now for someone that has to right now have a mage kingdom.

There are already several 12 kingdom games going on at mid-game now with lots of mage kingdoms under the January Changes.  This next game, or any one game is not the acid test for how wizard kingdoms are doing.  Again, Valhalla can show you how they have been doing over the last year.

It's similar to when I suggest to new players not to take the Sacred Order in their first diplomacy game, they ignore the advice, take the Sacred Order and get crushed and sometimes leave.  I think the Sacred Order is stronger than you would see from Valhalla, but new players seem to always want them and it requires a different kind of sophistication.  For example, you don't really want small groups moving into the mountains or forest.  To continue the thought, new players are recommended to take the High Elves, the Dwarves, the Dark Elves, the Nomads, or the Gnomes.  Next might be the Lizard Kingdom and the Amazons and the Cimmerians.  Don't rush into the Demon Princes or Ancient Ones.  After you've played awhile, you'll understand why, and you'll know when you are ready.

The idea here is we have some new players who would have a better experience in both not having the much added complexity of controlling a mage kingdom, or being vaporized by an invisible full army with 3 Power 6 wizards.  Generally regarded as not fun on the receiving end.  We need to develop new players, not crush them or overwhelm them in an already complex game.  Again, the restriction is just this game, and when requested in a new game signup, not a forever thing.

Sign me up though I won't be very talkative in this game if that is ok with everyone.

I'd just like to add that I hope when we have this game filled we have the veterans take a newer player under their wing in diplomacy.

Hopefully a Dragon wing, not a great bat.  A Phoenix would also be acceptable.
