Sorry for the dreaded multipost...

Quick question does anyone know if ESO early strategic objectives are in effect?

Actually.one more , what is the earliest turn a high priestess can be recruited, is it 4?

Yes ESO is in effect. It will still be done manually on T10 and T15 if you missed on T10. HP can be bought and used on T4 and later.

Aren't the ESO's automatic (not manual from a players standpoint--i.e. no need to issue an order)?

Yes, no action needed by player, but lots of manual checking for processing team.

I despise the Elves. No magic, a military that is only good at hiding in woods, mediocre emmies and no agents. Blech! What an ugly race. I am certain that a skilled player can win with them, but that would be a reflection of their skill rather than the race itself. I find myself immensely enjoying the Witchlord right from the getgo and despising the Elves right from the getgo. What does that say about me? Sad

How are you liking the Blacks Panda? How about Dwarves and Gnomes? it would be nice to see a race's T0 before you choose. I had a very different mental picture of the magical Faye. Is there a resource for checking the details of starting T0's? I find the generic descriptions rather unhelpful. it was only when I saw T0 (to my utter dismay) that I really see the race for what it is (or isn't).

Do tell, Beatific, what you imagined the High Elves dossier or T0 results to look like, exactly.

BL is fun so far. Certainly has it's challenges to overcome, but also has some nice strengths.

You might ask Jumpingfist for T0s - most experienced players have a collection. Might want to try to get setup info also, as it lists movement costs and special abilities.

The joy of discovery is probably why the various powers are mysterious, but I would really like to be able to evaluate the position (beyond an interesting blurb) before committing to a months-long game.

Don't give up on elves - I think they will be pretty strong in this game format.

I'm playing the Elves in this format. Your starting geographical position can be very advantageous. I took the Northern Mists as my second region and Torvale is wide open for you as well. Make raising your influence an early priority and your emissaries are pretty strong (and get a 10% bonus when inciting or usurping).

Seems like the Elves are one of the more balanced kingdoms but maybe your disappointed because they are not really exceptional in any one category. I think their balance can be their strength.

You see a lot of people take shots at the Elven kingdom lately but it seems like much of the concern involves the Troll's ability to rush Region 1. There is no troll in your game so the Elves don't have to suffer that Achilles heal (if it does exist).

But I'm still new myself so I may not know exactly what I'm talking about Wink

Agreed. And I probably should have asked Jumping Fist since his collection of useful charts, guides, etc is actually quite impressive. And my commentary on the Elves, Ry Vor, is purely subjective. Purely. I tried to make that clear with my Personal preference for the Witchlord and a poorly attempted self deprecating personal reference.

Still, I do see in the forums some people who swear by the Elves and will take them first whenever possible. Or maybe it is my forthright opinionated manner that is putting you off. Fair enough and apologies extended. Blush

Jumping Fist explained to me some of the Elf background and corrected my statement about Elves being good in the woods (they are not). Nevertheless, I am interested in the rest of my game mates opinions of their races. This IS a learning game and I would like to compare notes with those who are willing to do so. Notwithstanding Ry Vor's scandalized tone. Or did you think that everyone would love every race? Jumping Fist has been doing a pretty good job assessing my preferences (being my mentor in my first two games) and is pointing me at other races that might be more fun for my style of play (or at least how it is developing and such as it is). Use him liberally! Actually quite a skilled teacher. Cool
