New Full Diplomacy Game
#21
I have no intentions of playing a mage kingdom Rick. But as it is a random draft, if I am stuck between the AM and SO. I would rather play the SO. If I get first pick it won't be a mage kingdom. I do understand what you are attempting to accomplish and as such I have no real problems. But at the same time using Valhalla as an example when massive nerfs to the wizard kingdoms have just occurred and buffs to other kingdoms. I just don't see that as a fair comparison. In 5 months time if the wizard kingdoms are still being chosen, then sure I can agree with your point.

Needless to say I am hoping to play one of the lesser chosen kingdoms for a Steel game.

IMP_TARK
Atuan
JohnDoe (Chivalry)
Wayde (Chivalry)
Ohman the heartless (Chivalry)
Avantar (Chivarly)
RELLGAR (Chivarly)

Let me know if those Chivalry bonuses are incorrect (or change before the game starts)

What is the cutoff for Chivalry Asking because I just had my first 2nd place finish.

I agree with Rellgar, I hate quitting games that the position is lost but really can not afford to get into new games/service levels. Yes I know the debate about play what you want how you want, but I do feel I kind of owe it to the other players to try and play as long as possible even when there is no chance to get a podium finish.  (Or even avoid getting last place)

How about I guarantee you won't have the Amazons?  I don't think they last past pick six with no mage's in the game.

The Gray Mouser thinks the wizard kingdoms have not been nerfed, and in fact need to be taken down another notch.  Again, while we have our perceptions, we also have the popularity of the kingdoms (how often they are chosen) which seems to gravitate to the perceived stronger kingdoms, and the actual Valhalla results.  Presently 5 of the top 8 spots are mage kingdoms.  So I am hoping our top ranked players do not choose them.  In all fairness, I don't want new players to be misled as to fun in Alamaze: you might stare at your orders for six hours trying to decide what to do with a mage kingdom at midgame.  To a lot of us, that's fun, to others it might be work.

How about another Tactics corner with the top players and how to deal with caster kingdoms in the later part of a game.  Perhaps some more helpful guides might help out the inexperienced on dealing with casters.  Lets face it, you can go after one caster kingdom in the 1st 10 turns, but what do you do after beating the SO, now you have to deal with the DU, then the NE and finally the WA.

Well, its a big ask for the player-authors, takes time for me to reformat, and we didn't get the number of responses or reaction from the forum readers I expected when I asked them to take the time to answer those eight strategy questions.  But now you are on board...if we get a few more I will ask for another episode.

Stupid question here. Why are the starting regions set in stone. Why can't you draft a kingdom, and also so draft a region. I know the Southern Sands favors the Nomad, and the talking Mountains the Dwarf. But the Atlantians have 4 regions with major sea locations, why can't they possibly choose the Mists or Torvale. Just talking here?

I found the previous help article very helpful and well done and did comment and asked questions.  I would do so again and this is a great topic.

Congratulations, Avantar!  You are now a podium player.  The chivalry determination is based on Valhalla the day the game is created and is normally self-reported.

Before we released The Choosing a little over a year ago, we had a forum thread on The Philosophy of The Choosing that has over 100 posts:
http://kingdomsofarcania.net/forum/showt...?tid=10254

The dispersed kingdoms may have a capital in any region they have a starting PC in, but it is not selected by players.

Kingdoms aren't just plopped down haphazard, and we consider not only terrain but several other factors like who the neighbors are.  While the other PBEM games I know about and Alamaze 2nd Cycle had one fixed setup, in The Choosing we have 2 to the 11th power or 2048 possible combinations of active kingdoms in any one Steel or Alliance game created.  So it will be a while before we see everything possible in terms of which kingdoms are in a game.

Meanwhile of course with Duel you can match any two kingdoms, and in Primeval we can have any five kingdoms in their designated zones.
