January 2017 Choosing Changes

Okay so based on that turns run on Jan 13th will have these rule changes or not?

Are the kill wizard/protect/dispel magic considered combat spells and are they limited to one per group?

If I have 1 group against 2 different groups can I use summon death once against each group?

The remaining items for the Jan 2017 update will be included in subsequent releases that I haven't posted yet but I'll try to maintain my original estimates. Just keep in mind that some tasks or grouping of tasks will be completed earlier since Ry Vor simplified many of them.

BTW, it's fine to say that you need more time to adjust to the change (like what just happened about summoning troop upkeep) and I'll try to accommodate everyone's wishes but I also need to get certain portions of the Jan update done before others so please keep that in mind.

I was also planning on posting a tentative schedule of the remaining tasks for everyone but I've been busy at work and couldn't get to it this morning. See below for a rough estimate for the remaining tasks and when they'll be done but only go by Unclemike's Corner posts as the official listing of when things will be done:

Jan 20
   Trait Changes - just the Halfling portion of this grouping of items where the Halfling's magic improves from disadvantaged to substandard
   Rule Changes - just the upkeep for summoned troops portion of this grouping
   Spell Effect Changes - all items and I'll specify in greater detail which spells are affected
   Spell List Changes - all items

Jan 27
   Artifact Changes - all items
   Text Changes - all items
   [and any item that players needed to postpone until the very last release of this update]

I asked this last time and it was said you could cast a firestrike and tornado with the same group. But now the latest update shows only 1 direct damage spell.
And an even odder grouping only meteor strike or summon death these are two very different spells. Why are they clumped together?

The restriction is one combat effecting or affecting spell of each name from one group to one target. 

So one group with the needed wizards could cast one Earthquake, one Tornado and one Firestrike on the same target if they liked.  Or if facing two different groups and with wizard power necessary, could cast one Earthquake at each of two different targets.

Only one Summon Death spell per group per target per turn, but two different groups with the wizard power could each cast Summon Death on the same target group.

It took longer than I thought but I just finished upgrading the server with the first phase of the Jan 2017 update: http://kingdomsofarcania.net/forum/showt...6#pid43756

The order entry website was also updated so everyone needs to pick up the latest version or you may encounter strange behavior. As always with updates to the website, you will need to:

1) Log out by completely closing the browser (red 'x' upper right corner). You will need to close all instances of the browser too so if you have others looking at different websites, please shut them down as well. If you don't then the open browser(s) may hold on to the old cache and it won't clear for you.

2) Log back in and press the browser refresh button on the order entry's Home page.

3) If you encounter weird behavior on another menu tab, press the browser refresh button on that page as well. Each menu page may be cached separately by your browser so you may need to refresh every menu page but usually you just need to refresh the Home page.

Two things that I would like to see that have to do with the On-line Order System which would greatly enhance it IMO:

1) Bring back the Summary tab (which listed all your entered orders in full syntax and in numeric order)

2) An additional bonus of the awesome Ready tab is that it lists who is playing which kingdom (and when you play a lot of games at once like me, remembering who is playing what truly strains the memory) for games which are non-Anonymous. It would be great if that feature were available in the Ready tab even for games that are NOT Ready Enabled as reminder of which player is playing which kingdom. This is especially relevant when a position has changed hands so that EVERYONE is aware that a new player has now taken over a kingdom that was previously being played by another. You could also, if you really wanted to maximize this space, indicate (perhaps with asterisk next to their kingdom name) if a player did not enter any orders that turn, so ALL players would be aware at the same time that a position may be headed towards being dropped in the near future.

I'll meet you halfway here. I can add Summary back again but it'll have to be abbreviated (e.g., Sumry) since I can't fit the entire word 'Summary' on the top menu line without it wrapping onto the next line (screws up the display).

However, I'm not in favor of notifying others in a ready enabled game of when a position becomes (or is about to become) dropped. That will only send in the vultures and it would be unfair to a beginner player who may be struggling to fill out orders and then gets gang up on by four kingdoms if they think he's dropped. If a standby player takes over a position, it's up to that particular player to advertise to the others of the takeover. In some cases, a new standby player would want to delay that news if it's to their advantage. Who knows but it's the player's responsibility to notify others if such is desired. Not the website.

BTW, for anonymous games, the Ready Menu page won't display your personas, just the kingdoms and the ready status for that kingdom. Try it someday...

Okay I have a couple of questions on the updates that happened/should have happened.

Did the groups (IE AM, SA, RA, DA) receive their extra group or is that only for initially set up kingdoms.
Teleport Patrol... I dont see this spell in any of my spell lists and I am expecting it there. Has this not been set up. I have turns that run tomorrow that will be impacted by these changes.

The extra 5th group will only apply for newly created games (stated elsewhere on the forum).

Upgrading the server takes several hours so it'll take most of Friday's afternoon if everything goes well (e.g., no typos). So the new spells of Invisible/Teleport Patrol may not yet show up while you're filling out your actions for the turn.

I have more files to update but if you're in a rush, try it now (Fri 2:25pm EST). Make sure that you fully logout and have no browsers running. Relog and press the browser refresh button on the Home page. If you were on today (some of you were filling out your turn's actions while I was updated the site), press the browser refresh button on EVERY menu tab (from Home to the new Summary page). Every menu page should have Sumry at the far right which is the Summary page but with a shorter name.
