Actually, I think randomizing would give an even GREATER advantage to experienced players as they'd be better able to adapt.

I see what you're saying but the new players wouldn't really have to adapt at all because there is no 'normal' for them.
But, yes, Winter on Turn 2 for a new player might be more detrimental to their success.

I think its pretty balanced right now. Experienced players have an advantage in that they know Winter is Coming, and what that means. But generally, Summer kingdoms are generally occupied gaining their regions and doing some consolidation for the first Winter. Then we can make an argument the southern kingdoms are at a disadvantage as the north can stage an invasion through the first Spring and into Summer.

You could have a "Winter is coming" element to the game like Game of Thrones and the turn report could alert you "Winter is coming" like the novels beat you over the head with and it never comes, like in the books.

No, Winter is on now. I think it started in book 4. There is snowfall in the Riverlands and the maesters agree that Winter has started. Now the big question is how long will Winter last?

My brother Russ, who did the Alamaze Oracle for quite awhile is also concerned George Martin may expire before he completes his life work. Of course, that happens to about all of us. What was the movie where they said, "Everyone thinks they have more time."
I named the new hell hound Aryia. I hope the Stark girl has a prominent role in the next two books. Seems like its shaping up for a fem-fatal thing with Aryia, the Red Woman, Daenerys, Margaery Tyrell.
