#129 - Master & Apprentice
#11
For those of you reading the M/A thread our BBQ Enthusiast ring leader came up with the plan that the apprentices would do 100% of the diplomacy and inter team communication.

Last update I got from my apprentice was that he had contacted all the other teams and told them he was declaring war on them. Evidently he is taking the Eternal Eye role very seriously...

Keep in mind, Hawk, that the goal is that they handle the diplomacy, but hopefully are bouncing ideas off of their respective mentors. I know Cloud has been great at keeping me in the loop, pinging me for ideas, etc.

My apprentice will soon out perform his master if he keeps up at this pace. I think we are all on for a fun game.

I am the Elf in this game:
Lesson #1 - always bid for the High Council. I had enough gold last turn that I could have put in a respectable bid, but I assumed (and made an ass out of me, though perhaps not 'you' if 'you is Dusi) that somebody would put in a big bid. End result, the So got the first HC seat at a steal. Clearly, he didn't expect it himself as he didn't place a bid for a resolution.
Our diplomacy, conducted by my noble apprentice, was to secure our two regions early. So far it has worked for me - I have not spoken to him yet to see if anybody has interfered with his region, though we did have a very aggressive RD/GN team making some extravagant demands (which were rejected) so we'll see.
A few specifics involve the usual WI/EL town swap. We considered having the TR hire the HP for the EL to save on my influence but in the end felt it was better for me to just do it myself (unlucky me - the old biddy died after one use).
I may post more, but let's hear from others first.

I am the Sorcerer in this game.

So now I'll get to adjust turn 2 orders for less available cash after making an ass out of DuPont and getting the HC seat. Due to some good wheeling and dealing by Cloud, this should not be an issue, but it is a good thing to contemplate for those that are going to be bidding on seat #2... make sure you bid what you can afford and still be able to use all of the emissaries that you are moving to towns this turn.

As DuPont indicates, the fact that I did not post an issue means that I did not think my chances of getting the seat were very high. However, the seat with no issue posted is worth, to me, the cost of order 480 (15k)... and since I paid less than that, I consider myself to be ahead in grand scheme of things. However, I would generally advise anyone that's putting a boatload into seat #1 to also make sure to throw 500 gold at an issue. Had I done that, generally it would mean a free point of influence.

Good to see the posts coming in, this we are all hoping will be a great forum for learning the game and how decisions are made, right or wrong.

Please always state which kingdom you are and the kingdoms you are discussing so readers don't have to guess. Personas will be interesting to know as well, as we expect the personas will become an important part of the strategy and deductive reasoning as the game progresses.

Woot! Woot!

I get credit for the first bone head order. I miscounted available food so a group did not get fed and so could not force march. The mighty RD are walking upon the earth instead of soaring through the skies. Anyone who feared a RD attack is safe an extra turn. Anyone who unexpectedly has dragons at their door can take a breath and realize those beasts are simply lost.

My apprentice Jhereg is a skilled diplomat apparently. For the EL to scandalously impugn the generosity of his offer is ... unexpected. Maybe the apprentices will still work something out. There is no AN in this contest and a direct beneficiary of that change is the TR roaming so carefree through the entire region... I am informed most kingdoms were happy to assist the RD in setting up hunting grounds somewhere, anywhere else. Maybe the apprentices will still be talking about where dragons should feed during this next week.

First turn important thought: must budget for first three turns on turn one. Newer players can get a rude lesson turns two and three when initial stockpiles are depleted, food is all sold, ships are scrapped and the seasons change. Count your gold! Keep one eye on the food too. This lesson I still need to learn obviously. Smile

LT, I'm happy to review your orders for you each turn if you want.
