This could happen frequently as normally a player gets a strong patrol to engage encounters.
This is what happened to my group (that led to this discussion) after triumphing in an excellent encounter, and I am good with it. My group was full of leaders, so the Marshal stayed in the square waiting for the next adventurer. I, of course, went back with a different group the very next turn. That all worked just fine and I agree that is how it should be handled.
I only wrote in because the coding had the marshal showing to anyone who subsequently looked at the encounter, and the encounter was showing that he was in my group even though he was not. The encounter should remain secret for subsequent adventurers.
Finally, I am not sure whether those excellent guardians should be back or not as my next group had to kill them again to get to the Marshal. Could argue that either way. I lean toward the guardians coming back (or new and similar guardians replacing them), as the encounter would otherwise drop from excellent to enigma.

I really do like the anonymous nature of the encounters. In the past only enigma could give you a wizard or mounts so you could prepare a bit just incase and but also risked nothing. Now some of the encounters actually risk your leaders and wizards just to be turned away because your over loaded. I would say add to the group but I know I would be bummed if I got a pair of adepts and they just disappeared.
Maybe allow a level 4 agent or higher that scouts only one square the ability to see what artifact is inside, the totem would do this for a group with one as well. And/or a priestess order that lets you select one square and she divines everything about that single square (maybe to strong)

Why not let those kingdoms with the Adventurers trait be able to discern if there was a leader/wizard to be gained from the encounter on the same turn they arrive on that square (before an #140 order is issued). Non-adventuring kingdoms with Tracking, Eagle Familiar, Dire Wolf Familiar, L4+ recon, etc. also learn of this when they encounter that square. Thus, with proper preparation, you'd know ahead of time if you need to make room for a new leader/wizard BEFORE your group issues #140? They don't get any other info, just if gaining a wizard or leader is part of this Unusual Sighting.

Wait, even though I beat the encounter, the P3 is still there? So if I have a strong group, I can basically have free gold and promotions every turn until I opt to open a space for a wizard?

Lol. Now I am guessing Ry Vor will make sure to fix that part.

Well, on closer inspection, there was no gold, and I lost a guy in addition to obtaining promotions, so it's potentially a mixed bag.

Dear Atlantians,
I have discovered an artifact at sea, would you like to retrieve it for me. You keep the gold and I'll trade it to you for another 10000 gold. Email me. mtorp1@hotmail.com

I only just noticed that I did a group combine, but an artifact remains with the inactive group.

Now that is cool. Good way to keep it protected from thieves.

The combine works. He did an agent 910 of the artifact to an inactive group (after the combine).
