Best uses of the different spells.

Back in the late 90s when I played my only Alamaze game, I remember looking at the 'create gold' spell and thinking it wasn't worth it to use. I remember doing the math and thinking that the results for low levels of the spell didn't seem worth the use of an order and at the higher levels, the gains didn't compare to the cost of raising a wizard to that level in the first place.

Is 'create gold' a desperation spell for emergency cash? Or was I wrong and is it in fact a good spell for raising money at the beginning of the game, when you're poor? Something else?

As long as I'm raising the issue, I'm throwing open the discussion for all other kinds of non-battle spells that could help your kingdom and how they're best used and in what stage of the game and at what level.

I'll create a separate thread for battle spells now that I think of it, because that would be cool too.

Iron ore spell is quite useful.

Create Gold, I'm using the spell this turn.

Gold is EXTREMELY tight early game. If you find yourself not needing any additional gold you're probably not maximizing your potential-

It's the best L2 spell IMO along with Sleep.

Create Gold is great because it's always useful. Even if you don't need to teleport, won't be fighting in a battle, and generally don't need your wizard, he's still useful when he can create gold. Sure, we want our wizards to cast the highest level spell possible each turn, but that's not always feasible. Besides, a little gold could make the difference between a successful turn and a bad one. At least Create Gold is scalable, meaning it gets better with each wizard.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.
