It was an Earthwood clone, called Evermore or something like that...

Earthwood was the first PBM game I ever played. I wished i'd kept the maps and races. Use to wait for the diplomatic letters to come via the post !

Its surprising, but I think sticking to the PBM format has been the key to longevity for RSI's games. There is something about the anticipation, getting that turn in the mailbox that doesn't seem to be replicated by the email and browser based games.

It also has to do with the fact that not an insignificant portion of thier player base is incarcerated.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

They also do a Forgotten Realms type hex-based strategy game.

Rick Loomis at Flying Buffalo is also still chugging along. I personally don't care much for his games, but you have to give him kudos for having a system that works, and utter devotion to processing times and such.

I can say with certainty that RSI and it's Duelmasters game are still going strong. I just returned last weekend from their Face to Face tournament in Chicago. It was attended by 45+ players and seems to be undergoing a bit of a resurgence in returning players.

Unlike a few other that have posted I don't see the large prison player base any longer. I can count the amount of players in prison now on one hand. So if anyone was going to try an RSI run game but was worried about getting shived in the shower I can say your fears are misplaced. Unless of course you are already in prison, then all bets are off!!

Actually, Tribes of Crane is NOT called Fallen Empires, now. This has already been confirmed, elsewhere, previously.

Think Flying Buffalo runs Feudal Lords. Played this back in the day and gotta say it is fun. You can get taken out of the game in a HURRY but it is a fun game.

Anyone experienced with Hyborain War? Curious about this game, would love to get in on a lil buddy power hitched to an experienced player's horse.

World War 4 by JFH games has just stopped running games. Has anyone played it or heard of it? IT has been around for almost 30 years. I have played it since game 1 and played in the last game that just ended this year. I have an opportunity to take over the game and update it. I'm wondering if there would be an interest in New players trying the game. Check out the reviews from the 90s and give me your opinions. The game was top rated and number 1 for a time.

Well, obviously this is not JFH's site, and I am not familiar with the game.  I will just tell you, there is a lot of pressure to have a "modern" game.  Meaning the interface should be intuitive, players should at least get the basics easily, pricing can't be what it used to be, I could go on.  I generally sum it up with, "It's harder than it looks".  And even Alamaze starting 200 games in 3.5 years, I still need to supplement the income.

I would say I would take a look, but I am just too fussy about design.  And art.

I played WWIV for a lot of years too.  We could see the customer base shrink every year and there were very few changes to keep the game new.  It was never really newbie friendly with no variants that could allow a new person  to stay "alive" any length of time.  The last few years were nothing but team games.

The game owners email is jfhgames@netzero.net , if you message me I'll give you his phone number. It was reviewed in paper mayhem and flagship magazines. He is interested in having it reprogrammed and put online like Alamaze is.
