New Combat Spells
#1
If you haven't read about the new wizard leveling progressive system of the upcoming release, reference here: https://kingdomsofarcania.net/forum/show...7#pid80877

With the new wizard level progression system, it is easier to attain higher wizard levels than before, so a rebalancing of magic in the game is necessary to compensate.

Spell density, which increases spell damage based upon the target’s size, will be dropped in favor of new combat spells that scale magic damage more appropriately for a wizard’s level.

Spell Density:
  vs divisions      125%
  vs armies         150%
  vs army groups 200%
  vs towns          125%
  vs cities           150%

Spell damage (base):
  ---: Guarded Attack        600
  1st: Lightning              1,000
  2nd: Firestrike             1,400
  3rd: Tornado               1,800
  4th: Earthquake          2,200
  5th: Ice Torrent           3,000  (new)
  6th: Chain Lightning    3,500  (new)
  7th: Prismatic Rays      4,000 (new)
  8th: Incendiary Cloud  4,500  (new)
  9th: Disintegrate         5,000  (new)

Former (full spell density):
  pwr-5 earthquake = 5 x 2200 = 11,000
  pwr-5 tornado = 5 x 1800 = 9,000
  pwr-5 firestrke = 5 x 1400 = 7,000
Total: 27,000 x 200% (spell density vs army grps) = 81,000 dmg

  pwr-8 earthquake = 8 x 2200 = 17,600
  pwr-8 tornado = 8 x 1800 = 14,400
  pwr-8 firestrke = 8 x 1400 = 11,200
Total: 43,200 x 200% (spell density vs army grps) = 129,600 dmg

New (no spell density):
  pwr-5 ice torrent = 5 x 3000 = 15,000
  pwr-5 earthquake = 5 x 2200 = 11,000
  pwr-5 tornado = 5 x 1800 = 9,000
Total: 35,000 dmg (no spell density) = 35,000 dmg (vs 81,000 above pwr-5)

  pwr-8 incendiary cloud = 8 x 4500 = 36,000
  pwr-8 prismatic rays = 8 x 4000 = 32,000
  pwr-8 chain lightning = 8 x 3500 = 28,000
Total: 96,000 dmg (no spell density) = 96,000 dmg (vs 129,600 above pwr-8)

These changes are necessary for proper game balance. The new wizard level progression system will allow players to attain higher level wizards than before, but without spell density, total magic damage will be less, so wizards are less powerful in that respect.

This is necessary to slow down wizard kingdoms who have been placing very well in Valhalla standings, more than they should by design.

To honestly evaluate the entire game rebalancing effort, one needs to consider other factors than the above as well. Higher-leveled creature summoning spells (e.g., Summon Monster I-IX, Summon Iron Golem, etc.) will contribute to the value of developing a higher-leveled wizard than just combat spell damage.

Also, special and unique companion troops that certain kingdoms may attain can sway a battle in one’s favor. Giant Eagles for Elves, Beholders for The Forgotten, Chimeras for Fairy Folk, Griffons for Free Traders, etc., may contribute to one’s success in battle.

There are other new aspects to the game such as Mithril and Scrolls that may be crafted by kingdoms in order to help bolster their efforts towards winning the game.

So, don’t just consider the wizard leveling system or the reduced spell damage of above. There are other factors to consider in order to properly balance everything where all kingdoms have a solid chance of doing well in the game.
