'DuPont' Has Died
#1
No, not me. I'm still quite well, thanks. But in 1987/88 when I first started playing Alamaze, I was coming off of a jag as a young volunteer for the presidential campaign of Pierre S 'Pete' DuPont IV, who was seeking the GOP nomination at the time. I was quite disappointed when he didn't win and the nomination went to the uninspiring (to me, anyway) George H.W. Bush so in my first game of Alamaze, I took advantage of the 'name your king' feature to name my king 'DuPont'. Hey, since he couldn't be president, he could at least be a king in Alamaze! Then when still playing that first game, I submitted an article to the Oracle and signed it as 'King DuPont'. Incidentally, I won that first game (as the Westmen) and never re-used the name DuPont as I didn't want to soil the perfect record. But when I signed up here, I chose that as my unsername out of respect to Governor DuPont.
Anyway, Pete DuPont died today at age 86 in his home in Delaware. I can't help feel a little sad and think about what a great president he would have made. I wonder what he would have thought to know that he'd inspired a young person so much that he kept his name alive, battling in Alamaze decades later?

Thanks for sharing your story.  That is really interesting and you have certainly played with honor over the years.
