# 502 Choosing Beta 1
You really believe you need to power down agents? You mentioned how powerful the Wizards kingdoms are due to cheap cost Lich and basically all the spells by p7. Agents are the one equalizer. Otherwise it's summon death 2-4 times. Destroy enemy group. Meteor strike pc until the defense is a wall of twigs and you can take it with a Gomer Pyle strength brigade.

With all or almost all wizard kingdoms starting with a hidden capital, agents really are your best tool for fighting them.

Just my 2 cents from fighting the WA and from my brief encounters against you.

I think the Sorceror should have less agent power. I think agents needed to be taken down from 2nd cycle. I thought CE at range 3 was too prohibitive.

Thanks for the burst of impressions on the first beta.  That's really what I'm looking for, is the feel of the kingdoms.  There are a few I haven't heard much from, which is actually part of the reason for the third beta, as well as the adjustments we have made from the first two betas.

Several Traits change.  Devout has been paired down a bit.  Charisma has been assigned to the Ancient Ones, Elves, Halflings, Pirates and Atlantians, provides +1 Influence and 10,000 gold is added (free) to a bid for a High Council seat.

A significant change is to the Effective PC defense.  PC's will have a base defense, which is what we have always seen on our results.  But now there is an Effective defense, which is what is used in battle.  Generally, besides the Capital which might provide a 25% - 35% defensive advantage, the rest of these provide 10% each to PC defense: being in control of the region (Regional Support), kingdom terrain adeptness, Siege Engineering, Military Tradition, Stalwart, Cunning.

Minatours has a food and gold maintenance upkeep.  The Nomad's summer special ability is cut back some, but the Cimmerians were giving that revised advantage in winter.

We pushed back to a future release SVC, a sea freezing in winter, and the Causus Belli idea.

On the feedback we've seen here on the kingdoms in the forum, I don't think anyone has said they didn't like their kingdom.  Its also interesting that many have felt their kingdom might even be too strong.  I think it will take some months for players to adapt as to their kingdom's traits and abilities, but also bearing in mind those of their foes.

We'll keep an eye on the wizards, but in this first beta, it was the military kingdoms that were doing the best.

I'm not sure the military kingdom advantage isn't due to when the game has been ending. In 503 the ne and du were just starting to go out with their wizards. Charisma seems interesting. Will be be interesting to see if those kingdoms fill the council.
